How to Specify the Operations Manager Server for VMM

Applies To: Virtual Machine Manager 2008, Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2, Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2 SP1

To enable health monitoring and Performance and Resource Optimization (PRO) in Virtual Machine Manager (VMM), configure the connection to the System Center Operations Manager 2007 root management server. This setting also makes available the Diagram View window, which displays a graphical map of the relationships among all components of the virtualized environment that VMM manages.

VMM 2008 R2 supports both Operations Manager 2007 and Operations Manager 2007 R2.

To specify the Operations Manager root management server

  1. In Administration view, in the navigation pane, click System Center, and then click Operations Manager Server in the results pane.

  2. In the Actions pane, under Settings, click Modify.

  3. In the Server name field, enter the computer name, NETBIOS, or fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the root management server for Operations Manager. In a disjointed namespace, you must enter the FQDN.

    Note

The Operations Manager root management server name cannot contain Unicode characters.
