Description

Removes the My Network Places icon from the desktop.

This entry stores the setting of the Hide My Network Places icon on desktop Group Policy. Group Policy adds this entry to the registry with a value of 1 when you enable the policy. If you disable the policy or set it to Not configured, Group Policy deletes this entry from the registry, and the system behaves as though the value is 0.

Change method

To change the value of this entry, use Group Policy. This entry corresponds to the Hide My Network Places icon on desktop Group Policy (User Configuration\AdministrativeTemplates\Desktop).

This entry affects only the desktop icon. It does not prevent users from connecting to the network or from browsing for shared computers on the network.

Windows 2000 does not add this entry to the registry. You can add it by editing the registry or by using a program that edits the registry.
