Running Nonnative Applications in Windows 2000 Professional
There is little performance gain in turning off Os2srv or disabling the OS/2 subsystem because it uses no memory or resources until an OS/2-based application is run. However, you might need to terminate or disable the subsystem to attain compliance with government security standards. Use the following procedures:
To turn off Os2srv
Run the Process Viewer tool.
In the dialog box, select Os2srv , and then click Kill Process .
If you run another OS/2-based application later, Os2srv is reloaded.
Note
The Process Viewer tool is provided as file Pviewer.exe on the Windows 2000Resource Kit companion CD.
To disable the OS2 subsystem
Start a Registry Editor and find the Optional registry entry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\SubSystems.
Delete the value Os2.
Restart the computer to make the change effective.
For information about opening a registry editor, see information on the registry in Windows 2000 Prfessional Help.
