Run Maintenance Tasks on Compute Nodes

Applies To: Windows HPC Server 2008

In Windows HPC Server 2008, node templates define maintenance tasks. You can add maintenance tasks to a node template, or modify existing tasks by using the Node Template Editor. For more information, see Edit a Node Template.

For information about using HPC Cluster Manager, see Overview of HPC Cluster Manager.

To run maintenance tasks on compute nodes

  1. In Node Management, in the Navigation Pane, under By Group, click Compute nodes.

  2. In the views pane, select one or more nodes.

  3. Right-click your selection, then click Take offline.

  4. In the Take Offline dialog box, click Yes. The nodes enter the Draining state. Wait until all of the nodes indicate that they are offline before proceeding.

  5. Right-click the nodes that you have taken offline, then click Maintain. The nodes enter the Provisioning state.

  6. Optionally, you can monitor the progress of the maintenance tasks:

    1. In the views pane, select the nodes that you are maintaining.

    2. In the Actions pane, click Operations for the Nodes to pivot to a view of the operations log filtered by the selected nodes.

    3. In the views pane, in the Definition filter drop-down list, click Maintain Nodes, then click the filter button to see only the maintenance operations. For more information, see Read the Operations Log.

  7. When maintenance is complete, the nodes enter the Offline state. Select the nodes, right-click your selection, then click Bring Online.
