Internet presence scenario (Office SharePoint Server 2007)

Farm maintenance is the process of performing tasks to ensure that a farm is running well. Some operations are performed regularly, and some on an as-needed basis. Maintenance tasks are performed by users with farm administrator rights.

Much of the permissions work for the system is adding users to existing Active Directory groups, or having site administrators add users to sites. Changing the passwords used for administration accounts is an ongoing farm administrator task.

Document how security and permissions have been updated.

Consistently monitoring your SharePoint deployment helps you recognize typical performance under varying loads. When you understand your system, you can then tune performance. Establishing a baseline for typical performance can also help you troubleshoot if the system experiences atypical performance.
