Description

Permits only bitmap images for wallpaper.

This entry stores the setting of the Allow only bitmapped wallpaper Group Policy. Group Policy adds this entry to the registry with a value of 1 when you enable the policy. If you disable the policy or set it to Not configured, Group Policy deletes this entry from the registry, and the system behaves as though the value is 0.

Value

Meaning

0

The policy is disabled or not configured. Any image format can be used for wallpaper.

1

The policy is enabled. The desktop background (also called wallpaper ) is limited to bitmap (.bmp) files. If users select files with other image formats, such as JPEG, GIF, PNG, or HTML, the wallpaper does not load.

This policy is designed to avoid the Active Desktop prompt. When a user selects a wallpaper with an alternate image format, the system prompts the user to enable Active Desktop. But by limiting the user to bitmapped files, the prompt is avoided.

Change method

To change the value of this entry, use Group Policy. This entry corresponds to the Allow only bitmapped wallpaper Group Policy (User Configuration\AdministrativeTemplates\Desktop\Active Desktop).
