HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\ interface-name

Data type

Range

Default value

REG_SZ

(Any valid DNS domain name)

(Blank. You must enter a valid value when you use Network in Control Panel to configure the interface.)

Description

Specifies the Domain Name System (DNS) domain name of the interface, as provided by the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP).

The interface-specific DNS domain name is determined by the value of the DhcpDomain entry, which DHCP configures, and by the value of the Domain entry, which the user can configure.

If both of these entries contain valid values, the user-configured entry, Domain, takes precedence over the DhcpDomain entry.

Change method

To change the value of this entry, use Network and Dial-up Connections. Right-click Local Area Connection, click Properties, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click Properties. At the bottom right corner of the page, click the Advanced button, click the DNS tab, and then type the value in the DNS domain name text box.
