Understanding Charts and Reports

In HPC Cluster Manager, you can track information about your HPC cluster in the form of built-in charts (for monitoring) and reports (for monitoring and analysis). You can view charts and modify the way they display, and you can print and save reports. You can track the following kinds of information in charts and reports:

Computer resource usage |
Disk, network, and CPU usage. These charts, and the report, help you see patterns of usage, and can help you diagnose potential bottlenecks. The Job Resource Usage report also provides information about how much of the cluster CPU has been utilized and who has been using the cluster. |

Number of cores (computer processors on compute nodes). This chart shows how many cores are in various states such as busy or idle during a specified time period. |

Job statistics |
Job throughput. This chart and report compare the number of jobs that finished to the number that failed or were canceled. |

Number of jobs. This chart shows how many jobs are in a given state, such as queued or running, during a specified time period. |

Wait time of jobs in queue. This report shows wait time of jobs, and also compares wait time with job run time. |

Node statistics |
Availability of the head node or compute nodes. This report expresses availability as a percentage. |

Number of compute nodes. These charts show how many nodes are in a given state, such as queued or running, during a specified time period. |

You can also extend the reporting capabilities in Windows HPC Server 2008 by upgrading to SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition or SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition and installing SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services. (Note that Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition is included in Windows HPC Server 2008.) With these software additions, you can add capabilities such as the ability to e-mail reports and to schedule report generation.
