Explanation:

The WINS record is specific to Windows 2000 and can only be attached to the zone root domain and all DNS servers that are authoritative for that zone. You cannot have a WINS record for a subdomain.

Delete the specified WINS record from the file and add the WINS record to the zone file. To delete the WINS record from the specified file: 1. In Windows 2000 Explorer, go to the Systemroot\System32\Dns directory. 2. Double-click the specified file, and select Notepad to open it. 3. Delete the specified line from the file. 4. Save and close the database file. 5. Stop and restart the DNS server service. To add the WINS record to the zone file: 1. In DNS Manager, right-click the zone file to which you want to add the record. 2. Click Properties, and click the WINS Reverse Lookup tab. 3. Use the context sensitive help to configure the WINS record. 4. Click OK. 5. Click DNS on the menu bar, and click Update Server Data Files.
