Explanation:

The WINS-R (reverse lookup) resource record is specific to Windows 2000. The record can only be configured in the zone root of the reverse lookup domain. For example, (xxx.xxx.in-addr.arpa.)The WINS reverse lookup record must be configured with an associated DNS host name in order to resolve the dynamic IP addresses allocated by a DHCP server. The DNS host name for this record either does not exist, has not been configured in the WINS resource record, or has been corrupted in the database file. To locate the DNS domain name:1. Open Control Panel, and double-click Network.3. Click the Protocols tab, and select TCP/IP Protocols from the Network Protocols list.5. Click Properties, and click the DNS tab.7. The domain name should be specified in the Domain text box. Edit and add the domain name to the WINS-R resource record or delete the record and recreate it using DNS Manager.

Delete or add the domain name (DNS Host Name) to the WINS-R record: 1. In Windows 2000 Explorer, go to the Systemroot\System32\Dns directory. 2. Double-click the specified file, and select Notepad to open it. 3. Delete the specified line from the file or add the DNS host name to the record. 4. Save and close the database file. 5. Stop and restart the DNS server service. To add the WINS-R resource record to the specified file: 1. In DNS Manager, right-click the specified file. 2. Click Properties, then click the WINS Reverse Lookup tab. 3. Use the context sensitive help to configure the record. 4. Click OK. 5. Click DNS on the menu bar, and click Update Server Data Files.
