Updated: March 30, 2011

Applies To: Windows Home Server 2011

To create a homegroup for your home network

  1. Open the Windows Home Server 2011 Dashboard.

  2. On the main navigation bar, click Home.

  3. In the details pane, click Set up HomeGroup. The Create a Homegroup Wizard appears.

  4. Select the level of access that you want users to have for the shared folders on the home server. If you do not want users to have access to a folder, select No access for that folder.

  5. Click Create homegroup. The wizard creates a homegroup and displays the homegroup password.

  6. Write down the homegroup password, and use the password to add computers that are running Windows 7 to the homegroup.

Note

You can also create a homegroup by accessing the HomeGroup page of the Server Settings.

Important

You should only use the HomeGroup tools available in the Windows Home Server 2011 Dashboard to manage your HomeGroup. If you use the HomeGroup tools that are available in Control Panel, you can experience problems when sharing files and folders.
