Working with the SharePoint Server 2007 DoD 5015.2 Add-On Pack

The default Records Center that ships with SharePoint Server 2007 has some basic functionality within it. If you need more advanced functionality in your Records Center, you should seriously consider downloading and using the SharePoint Server 2007 DoD 5015.2 Add-On Pack (DOD5012). Some of the additional features that you’ll receive for free from Microsoft include the following:

  • Global periods and events
  • Records declaration and versioning
  • Disposition and cutoff instructions
  • Improved search center
  • Constrained columns that use supplemental markings and/or access control column values
  • Record relationship, move, and copy
  • File plan builder
  • Improved workflow process

What the add-on pack does not provide is the ability to batch documents into a set and to treat that set as a single entity for workflows, approvals, and dispositions. It would seem to us that the use of this add-on pack would add significant value to your overall document and records management system. Best practice would be to consider the use of this add-on pack, especially if your business requirements call for more advanced record management methods than that which ships with the base SharePoint Server 2007 system.
