Backing Up and Restoring IIS

2/9/2009

You should backup the Internet Information Services (IIS) metabase before and after you install each MDM server. For detailed information about backing up the IIS metabase, please visit the following Microsoft Web site: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=103605.

In general, you can backup the IIS metabase by doing the following:

  1. Open IIS Manager, right-click the local computer, point to All Tasks, and then select Backup/Restore Configuration.
  2. In the Configuration Backup/Restore dialog box, select Create Backup.
  3. In the Configuration Backup dialog box, type a name for the backup, and then select OK.
IIS backs up the metabase in the <systemroot>\system32\inetsrv\MetaBack folder.
  4. In the Configuration Backup/Restore dialog box, select Close.

To restore the IIS metabase, do the following:

  1. Open IIS Manager, right-click the local computer, point to All Tasks, and then select Backup/Restore Configuration.
  2. In the Configuration Backup/Restore dialog box, in the Backups list box, select the backup that you want to restore, and then select Restore.
IIS restores the metabase to the location from which it was backed up.
