MDM Multidomain Multiple-Instance Configuration Topology

You can install one or more instances of Microsoft System Center Mobile Device Manager (MDM) 2008 Service Pack 1 in one domain or in multiple domains throughout the forest. Each instance operates separately from other instances and you manage them as separate installations. However, an MDM instance in one domain can manage devices that belong to another domain.

The following illustration shows an MDM topology that includes two MDM instances contained in a single domain, and another MDM instance in a second domain.

The following items are highlighted by number in the diagram:

• 1: A separate MDM Gateway Server or group of computers running MDM Gateway Server for each instance
• 2: A device in one domain enrolled in an instance in another domain
• 3: Manage multiple MDM instances that are in the same forest from the same MDM console
