Install the Device Emulator Software

You download the Windows Mobile 6.1 Emulator Images from the following Microsoft Web site: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=115896. The images kit includes the following two files:

  • Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional Images (USA).msi, which contains the Device Emulator image for Windows Mobile PDAs.
  • Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard Images (USA).msi, which contains the Device Emulator image for Windows Mobile smartphones.

To install the Microsoft Device Emulator software, follow these steps on a Windows 32-bit, x86-based computer, such as a computer running Windows XP with Service Pack 2.

To install the Device Emulator software

  1. On the Start menu, choose Run.

  2. In the Run dialog box, in the Open box, type explorer, and then choose OK.

  3. In Windows Explorer, navigate to the location where you downloaded the Windows Mobile 6.1 Emulator images.

  4. Double-click the appropriate file:

    • To simulate a Windows Mobile PDA, choose Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional Images (USA).msi.
    • To simulate a Windows Mobile smartphone, choose Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard Images (USA).msi.

  5. On the Welcome to the Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional Emulator Images - USA Setup Wizard page, choose Next.

  6. On the End-User License Agreement page, select Accept, and then choose Next.

  7. On the Customer Information page, type your user name and organization name, and then choose Next.

  8. On the Destination Folders page, choose Next to accept the default installation folder. Or, to specify a different installation folder, choose Change.

  9. On the Ready to Install page, choose Install.

  10. On the Completing the Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional Emulator Images - USA Setup Wizard page, choose Finish.
