Note: All files must be closed for this process to run. If the volume is currently in use, a message asks if the disk checking can be rescheduled for the next time the system is restarted. Then, the next time the system restarts, disk checking will run. The volume will not be available to run other tasks while this process is running. If the volume is formatted as NTFS, Windows 2000 automatically logs all file transactions, replaces bad clusters automatically, and stores copies of key information for all files on the NTFS volume.
