Whenever your Microsoft Office Project Server 2007 deployment suffers a hardware or other failure leading to the loss of one or more databases or server roles, you can use your database and transaction log backups and installation media to recover your deployment. Depending on the nature of the failure, you may be able to recover to the point of failure and avoid data loss.

Before recovering your deployment, we recommend that you review Database synchronization in Project Server 2007.

For more information about using SQL Server tools for recovery, see Overview of Restore and Recovery in SQL Server (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=132753\&clcid=0x409) in SQL Server Books Online.

Basic recovery principles

Follow these basic principles when restoring your deployment:

  • Reinstall software — When recovering a computer running SQL Server or Office Project Server 2007, reinstall the operating system and any appropriate server role. This provides a cleaner recovery method than restoring a system backup.

  • Synchronize related databases — If you are recovering a database that is related to other databases and needs to be transactionally consistent with those databases, recover all the databases to the same point in time. If you are recovering to a point earlier than the point of failure, recover all the databases to a marked transaction.
