Applying server name translation to hide application servers directly published by IAG

Applies To: Intelligent Application Gateway (IAG)

Whale Communications Intelligent Application Gateway (IAG) 2007 server name translation prevents exposure of published Web server details to users outside the organization. Use server name translation to replace the name of a published application server with the name of a virtual server in all Web pages that are sent out of your organization.

Note

The server name translation option is only applicable in Web mail and Basic trunks. In portal trunks, the inherent host address translation (HAT) eliminates the need to use this option.

Creating and editing translation rules

Create, edit, and delete translation rules as follows:

To create a translation rule

  1. In the IAG Configuration console, click the required trunk node.

  2. On the main page of the trunk properties, next to Advanced Trunk Configuration, click Configure.

  3. On the Server Name Translation tab, select the Use Server Name Translation check box, and then click Add.

  4. In the Add Translation Address dialog box, specify the following:

in Server Name, select the service type, HTTP or HTTPS, and then specify the name of the virtual Web server. After you add the translation rule to the list, this is the name that will appear in the browser's URL address box and in the Web page HTML source file.

Select Translate In to specify that translation is applied to all incoming requests. Clients accessing the virtual Web server will be referred to the specific application server defined here. This option overrides the Application Server IP Address parameter that is defined for the trunk, and it enables data transfer to more than one server per trunk.

Translate Out is always enabled. It specifies that translation is applied to outgoing HTML pages. The name of the application server is replaced by the name of the virtual Web server as the pages are sent.

In Application server, select the server name and service type.

In Port to use, enter the port to use, and then click OK. When Translate In is enabled, incoming requests are sent to the application server by using the specified port.

The translation rule is added to the list of rules in the Server Name Translation tab.

To edit a translation rule

  1. On the Server Name Translation tab, in the list of rules, click a translation rule, and then click Edit.

  2. On the Edit Translation Address dialog box, edit the rule, and then click OK.

The translation rule is updated in the list of rules.

To remove a translation rule from the list of rules

  • On the Server Name Translation tab, in the list of rules, click a translation rule, and then click Remove.

The rule is removed from the list of rules.

To move a translation rule up or down in the list of rules

  • On the Server Name Translation tab, in the list of rules, click a translation rule, and then click either the Up icon or Down icon.

The rule moves up or down, respectively.
