Monitoring an IAG array

Applies To: Intelligent Application Gateway (IAG)

When an IAG high availability array is deployed, you can monitor all IAG servers that are part of the array from Web Monitor. When you access Web Monitor on one of the IAG servers that are part of the array, Web Monitor automatically maps itself to all IAG servers in the array.

Monitoring an array

Monitor an array as follows:

To monitor an array

  1. Open Web Monitor. The High Availability Array window lists all of the IAG servers in the array.

  2. Select the array member you want to monitor.

  3. In Web Monitor, click High Availability Array to access all array members.

Notes

If you cannot access an IAG array member using the High Availability Array link, verify the following:

  • The IAG server is up and running.

  • The IAG server is accessible from the server where you are using the Web Monitor.

  • You assigned the same users to IAG Monitor Users group on all IAG servers that are part of the array.

Querying servers that have been removed from an array

After you remove an IAG server from an array, you are no longer able to query events that were recorded on the server while it was still part of the array. However, you can copy the required logs to an IAG server which belongs to the array, and run the query there. Do this as follows:

To query reports of an IAG server that is removed from an array

  1. On the IAG server whose reports you wish to query, access the location where the logs of the built-in IAG reporter are saved:

    • The location is defined in the Built-In tab of the Event Logging dialog box. For more information, see Configuring IAG event logging. By default, the logs are saved in the following location:

      …\Whale-Com\e-Gap\logs\Events

Log files are saved under this folder in the following format:

      <computer_name>.BuiltinLog.default.<time_stamp>

      For example:

On a computer named “comp1”, a log file that was created on November 24, 2005 at 09:06:19 is named:

      comp1.BuiltinLog.default.24.11.05-09-06-19.log

  2. Copy the relevant file or files to one of the IAG array members, placing them in the location where the logs of the built-in reporter are saved on that computer, and rename the files so that <computer_name> is the name of the computer where you are placing the file.

    For example:

If you are placing the file described in step 1 on a computer named “comp2”, rename the file as follows:

    comp2.BuiltinLog.default.24.11.05-09-06-19.log

If such a file already exists, change the time stamp as well.

  3. On the IAG array member, you can now query the events logged in the copied files.
