About the IAG Configuration console

Applies To: Intelligent Application Gateway (IAG)

In the Whale Communications Intelligent Application Gateway (IAG) 2007 Configuration console you create and manage IAG trunks that publish applications directly or in an IAG portal. You open the IAG Configuration console as follows:

To access the Configuration console

  1. On the IAG server, click Start. Point to Programs, Whale Communications IAG, and then click Configuration. Ensure that you are logged on to the server with full administrator privileges.

  2. If you have not previously accessed the IAG Configuration console or the IAG Service Policy Manager console, you are prompted to define encryption keys. For more information, see Configuring IAG network and server settings.

  3. If you have previously access the Service Policy Manager console, but not the Configuration console, you are prompted to create a password for the Configuration console. The password must contain at least six digits. You can subsequently modify the password. For more information, see Modifying IAG network and server settings.

The main display of the Configuration console is displayed. Setting specified in the Configuration console are saved in a configuration file. The first time you configure IAG, a new configuration file is opened, and the main window of the Configuration console displays default parameters. When you open the Configuration console on consecutive configuration sessions, the last saved file is opened, and the main window of the Configuration console displays the file's configuration parameters. The file name and location are displayed in the title bar.

Some of the fields in the Configuration console are pre-populated with default values set by the system, or values that you assigned in the Service Policy Manager console. For more information, see About the IAG Service Policy Manager console.

Managing configuration files

A number of files are created during the configuration process. You define, edit, and save the properties of trunks in one, main configuration file, using the Create New Trunk Wizard and the Configuration console. Additional files are created, depending on the application of IAG, for example files that hold URL Inspection rule sets.

You can create a number of main configuration files, with different parameter settings. The parameters in the active file are the ones that are applied to the incoming and outgoing data. When you wish to apply different configuration parameters, you can open and activate another configuration file, thus applying its parameters to the system. The name and path of the currently active configuration file are saved in the registry.

Creating a configuration file

You create a new configuration file the first time you configure IAG. You can create as many additional files as you need at any time following the initial configuration, as follows:

To create a configuration file

  1. In the toolbar of the Configuration console, click the File menu, and then click New.

  2. To save the current settings, specify a name for the configuration file, and save it.

Opening a configuration file

You can revert to configuration settings which you previously saved on the current IAG server by opening and activating an existing configuration file, as described below

To open a configuration file

  1. In the toolbar of the IAG Configuration console, click on the File menu, click Open.

The Open Configuration File window is displayed.

  2. Select the file you wish to open, enter your passphrase, and click Open.

The selected file opens. The file name and path are displayed in the title bar.

  3. Click the Activate icon to activate the configuration; when prompted, enter your passphrase.

The Activate Configuration window is displayed.

  4. In the Activate Configuration window, click Activate.

The configuration file you have loaded is now active, and its parameters determine IAG behavior. Note that you cannot open a configuration file saved on a different IAG server using this procedure.

Managing configuration projects

You can export configuration settings to a configuration project that you can later import to the same IAG server, or to a different IAG server. For example, when deploying multiple IAG servers in an array, you can define configuration settings on the first IAG server in the array and then export the settings to a configuration project in a location that is accessible by array members. You can then import the project to the other IAG servers in the array. Export settings to a configuration project as follows:

To export the configuration

  1. In the IAG Configuration console, on the File menu, click Export.

The Export configuration window is displayed.

  2. Specify the location to which you want to export the project, and a project name.

  3. Specify the passphrase.

  4. By default the configuration file is encrypted when it is exported. If you wish the file not to be encrypted, select the Export Decrypted check box.

  5. Click Export. When prompted, select Yes to create a new file. The Export configuration window closes, and the configuration is exported to the selected location.

Note

The same encryption key has to be installed and an identical passphrase must be used for the IAG server from which you export the configuration project, and all IAG servers into which you import the project.

Import a configuration project as follows:

To import the configuration

  1. In the IAG Configuration console, on the File menu, click Import.

The Import configuration window is displayed.

  2. Select the configuration file, enter your passphrase, and then click Import.

The Import configuration window closes. The project, including all its configuration settings, is imported into the IAG server.

  3. Click OK to dismiss the message. In the menu bar of the Configuration console, click the Activate Configuration icon and follow the instructions on the screen to save and activate the configuration.

The configuration is applied to the current IAG server. The configuration parameters of the current IAG server are set according to the configuration settings you have imported.
