Configuration information for the Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator service (MSDTC) is stored in a system-defined database called the registry. The registry is organized hierarchically as a tree, and it is made up of keys and their subkeys, hives, and entries. MSDTC configuration information is stored in registry keys, and it is essential to the normal operation of MSDTC.

Resolve

Confirm that the server has access to the OLETransactionManagers key

Use Registry Editor on the server to confirm that the Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator service (MSDTC) has access to the OLETransactionManagers registry key. Ensure that this registry key exists.

To perform this procedure, you must have membership in Administrators, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority.

To open Registry Editor on the server and confirm that MSDTC has access to the OLETransactionManagers registry key:

Caution: Incorrectly editing the registry might severely damage your system. Before making changes to the registry, you should back up any valued data.

  1. Click Start, click Run, and then type regedit. If the User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click Continue.
  2. Click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, expand Software, expand Classes, and then expand OLETransactionManagers.
  3. Click MSDTC, and check whether registry keys exist. To check a registry key, in the details window, right-click the item, and then click Modify. You can close the dialog box without making changes.

Verify
