The 'Web' vs. the 'web'

The actual text reads "Web-based" (capital W), referring to the capitalized Internet. I think that's selling the browser short. Browsers are a great IT tool for all sorts of internal business apps. At Microsoft, for example, many of our internal IT-built apps use the browser as the client — benefits election, stock and 401K plans, absence reporting, even expense reporting (an Excel worksheet embedded in an HTML page). Few if any of these touch the Web. But they all use the web, the uncapitalized intranet.

In general, our IT Group built the current versions faster and better using a browser as a client.

And let's gloss over any possible double meaning for "capitalized Internet" above.
