How to Change Between Paid and House Advertisements

An ad type can be either a paid ad or a house ad. A paid ad is an advertisement that is served with specific delivery goals. The determination to serve an ad at a given time is based on a Need of Delivery calculation. This considers the total quantity of content (number of ads) to be delivered, and the length of the time period during which the ad must be served. A house ad is a self-promotional ad a company runs when paid ads are ahead of their Need of Delivery (NOD) schedule. For example, a customer orders 1000 paid ads to be delivered over four months, but in the first two months the order has been served 850 times. To balance the NOD schedule, house ads are served. House ads are also served when there are no paid ads eligible for the request. For example, a house ad would be served because all paid ads missed a required target or hit an exclusion. You can use a house ad to sell leftover inventory at discounted prices. You can also use house ads if the ads on the site do not have specific delivery goals, but you want to have the ads run at specified weights. You may want to change the ad type. You cannot change the ad type unless the ad status is Pending Approval. If the ad status is Approved and you want to change the ad type, you must disapprove the ad before you can make any changes. For information about how to disapprove an ad, see How to Disapprove an Advertisement.

To change between paid and house advertisements

  1. Click Start, point to Microsoft Commerce Server 2009 , and then click Marketing Manager.

  2. In Marketing Manager, in the Views pane, click Campaigns.

  3. In the Tree View pane, click All Ads.

    If you cannot see the Tree View pane, click Tree View on the toolbar.

  4. In the Search Results pane, select the ad to which you want to change the ad type.

  5. In the Tasks pane, click Edit.

  6. In the Ad Properties screen, on the Base Properties tab, in the Type box, select either House Ad or Paid Ad from the drop-down list.

  7. Click Save and close on the toolbar.
