You can use shadow copies to return a volume to the state it was in when a shadow copy was created. When you revert a volume, all changes made to files and folders on the volume after the point in time when the shadow copy was created are lost.

Resolve
Make the volume available again
Possible resolutions include:
- If you disconnected a removable hard disk drive, connect it again.
- If you manually brought the disk offline, bring it online again.
- Restart the computer to make the volume available again.
Verify
To verify that volume revert operations are working properly, create a new shadow copy and then revert to it.
To perform this procedure, you must have membership in Administrators, or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority.
To verify that volume revert operations are working properly:
Caution: When you revert a volume, all changes to files and folders on the volume that were made after the shadow copy was created will be permanently lost. The revert operation cannot be undone, and when it has started it cannot be cancelled.
Click Start, and then click Computer.
Right-click any of the volumes listed, and then click Configure Shadow Copies. If the User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click Continue.
Click the volume that you want to create a new shadow copy of, and then click Create Now.
Note: Depending on the size of the volume and the number of changes that have occurred since the last shadow copy, creating the new shadow copy can take a few seconds or several minutes.
When the shadow copy has completed, it will be listed under Shadow copies of selected volume, with the current date and time. Click that shadow copy, and then click Revert.
Select the Check here if you want to revert this volume check box, and then click Revert Now. Volume revert operations are working correctly if the volume is reverted without errors.
Note: Depending on the size of the volume, the revert operation can take a few seconds or several minutes.
