Deleting an OU

Updated: February 28, 2009

Applies To: Windows Server 2008 R2

This topic explains how to use the Active Directory module for Windows PowerShell to delete an organizational unit (OU).

The following example demonstrates how to delete the OU Test in the Fabrikam.co domain:

Remove-ADOrganizationalUnit Test -Recursive

If the flag for ProtectedFromDeletion is set to True, this cmdlet does not delete the OU and it returns an error.

For a full explanation of the parameters that you can pass to Remove-ADOrganizationalUnit, at the Active Directory module command prompt, type Get-Help Remove-ADOrganizationalUnit –detailed, and then press ENTER.
