Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 supports several types of client software for your organization’s users, including computer-installed client software, Web-based clients, and mobile devices:

  • Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 R2 is the primary client software for Office Communications Server 2007 R2. It provides presence, contact management, instant messaging (IM), conferencing, and telephony features.

  • Microsoft Office Communicator Web Access is a Web-based client that provides Office Communications Server 2007 R2 services to users without requiring local installation of client software. For details, see Computer-Based Access.

  • Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Group Chat enables users to engage in persistent, ongoing IM conversations and to access channel content, including files, links, and text.

  • Microsoft Office Live Meeting Client is a data collaboration and audio/video (A/V) client for both Office Communications Server 2007 R2 and the hosted Microsoft Live Meeting service.

  • Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Attendant is an integrated call management application that enables a user (for example, a receptionist or an administrative assistant) to manage multiple conversations at once through rapid call handling, IM, and on-screen routing.

  • Microsoft Office Communicator Mobile for Windows Mobile provides IM, enhanced presence, and telephony for users in your organization who are connecting from a smartphone or Windows Professional mobile device. For details, see Mobile Access.

  • Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 R2 Phone Edition is a USB-attached intelligent Internet Protocol (IP) phone that supports placing and receiving calls, enhanced presence, and client audio capabilities for Web conferences.

  • Conferencing Add-in for Microsoft Office Outlook is an Outlook conference scheduling client for Office Communications Server 2007 R2.
