Configuring the Staging Server

This section provides high level list of the tasks and procedures your perform to setup the staging server. For more information about the commerce staging feature, see Commerce Server Staging. The staging server is typically deployed in the staging tier of the data/staging domain.

Note

Commerce Server 2009 R2 Staging is available only with Microsoft Commerce Server 2009 R2 Enterprise Edition.

Perform these tasks to configure the staging server:

  1. Perform pre-installation steps:

    1. Install all prerequisite software. For more information, see Software Requirements for an Enterprise Commerce Deployment

    2. Enable Internet Information Services (IIS).

    3. Enable Active Server Pages (ASP). To configure the Commerce Server 2009 R2 Staging Reporting Service virtual directory correctly, you must enable ASP prior to running the Commerce Server 2009 R2 Configuration Wizard. For more information, see How to Enable Active Server Pages (ASP)

  2. Install and configure the Commerce Server 2009 R2 Staging component. The staging server should point to the staging server database. For information about how to install the staging service, see Installation and Initial Configuration.

  3. Unpack the Commerce Server 2009 R2 site onto the staging server. For more information, see How to Unpack a Site on the Staging Server.

  4. Set access permissions to help secure files and folders. For more information, see Setting File and Folder Access Permissions.

  5. Create application pools and make assignments to the IIS Worker Process group. For more information, see Working with Application Pools and Web Applications.

  6. Verify the installation of the Web services. For more information, see How to Verify Installation of the Commerce Server Web Services.

  7. Authorize users and groups to access the Web services. For more information, see Authorizing Users and Groups to Access Commerce Core Systems Web Services.

  8. Configure the keys for the Profiles Web service. For more information, see How to Configure Encryption Keys for Profiles System Data.

Note

You must grant service accounts access to the staging server databases for the Web services to be functional. This step is performed on the staging server that is running SQL Server. For more information, see Granting Access to the Commerce Server Databases.
