Review updates

Updated: March 10, 2009

Applies To: Windows SBS 2008

When Update Services receives information about a newly released update that applies to computers on the network, it places the update in one of the following four sections.

  • Updates with Microsoft Software License Terms that are pending approval.   Updates that are approved for installation and that need approval of the Microsoft Software License Terms.

  • Updates with Errors.   Updates that have a compliance that is not 100% (because one or more client computers returned an error while attempting to install the update).

  • Optional Updates.   Updates that are not automatically approved for installation.

  • Updates in progress.   Updates that are currently being deployed for installation on the applicable computers.

Because of the number of updates that may be available for download, reviewing every update that is released could become difficult to manage. Update Services assists you by displaying only the updates that apply to at least one of the computers on your network. If an update is released that does not apply to any computer on your network, Update Services does not display the update. This significantly reduces the number of updates that you need to manage.
