Updated: March 10, 2009

Applies To: Windows SBS 2008

To fix an unsuccessful update, do one of the following:

  1. On the server, open the Windows SBS Console, click Security, click Updates, click the update that is marked as failed, and then in the details pane click More information to view information about installing this update.

  2. On the client computer that is reporting the failed update, review the event log files to see if any installation errors are reported, and then resolve the errors.

  3. You can also click Connect to a computer by using Terminal Services to remotely connect to the computer and troubleshoot the update error. In the Windows SBS Console, click Network, and then click Computers. Right-click the computer or server that has the unsuccessful updates, and then click Connect to a computer by using Terminal Services.

  4. If the problem persists, review the software update settings (see Change software update settings) and the update classification settings (see Approve and deploy updates).
