Managing Language Packs

Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 includes two language packs that can be used by the Response Group Service. These language packs include the following:

  • Response Group Service Language Pack contains resources that enable Response Group Service administrators, response group managers, and formal agents to view the Response Group Configuration Tool and Response Group tab in their preferred language, respectively.
  • UCMA 2.0 Speech Language Packs contain language resources for use with the Microsoft speech recognition and speech synthesis engines that are part of the Microsoft Unified Communications Managed API 2.0 Speech SDK for Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 and can be used by the Response Group Service.

Installing or Removing a Language Pack

By default, the English (United States) language pack for text-to-speech and speech recognition functionality is installed when you deploy Office Communications Server 2007 R2. These speech technologies are used when you configure a welcome message or Interactive Voice Response (IVR) for Response Groups. Additional speech language packs are available in the Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 CD. You can also download them from the Microsoft Download Center at https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=139197. You can install or remove language packs as needed.

Note

The Speech Language Packs must be installed identically on all Front End Servers in a pool. The Response Group Service Language Pack must be installed identically on all Web Components Servers in a pool.

Note

If you have an East Asian language pack installed, we recommend that you also install the files to support East Asian languages. This applies to any computer running Windows Server 2003 that needs to access the Response Group Configuration Tool. When you install or remove a language pack, you must also do the following:

  • Use RGSLang.exe to register the language pack.*
  • Restart the Response Group Service application.
* The Response Group Service Language Pack does not require registration upon installation or removal.

To install the Response Group Service Language Pack

  1. Download the Response Group Service Language Pack from the Microsoft Download Center at https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=144531, and then copy the AcdWebMlp.exe file to computer where the Office Communications Server 2007 R2, Web Components Server is installed.

  2. Log on to the Web Components Server as a member of the local Administrators group.

  3. Browse to the folder where you copied the AcdWebMlp.exe file, and then double-click the file.

  4. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.

To install the Speech Language Pack

  1. Log on to the Enterprise Edition server or Standard Edition server as a member of the local Administrators group.

  2. Insert the Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 CD.

  3. In Windows Explorer, navigate to the CD drive.

  4. Browse to the Setup\amd64\Setup\Speech folder.

  5. Double-click the folder that corresponds to the language you want to install, and then double-click the msserverspeechlangpack_Language_Culture_ID.msi file.

To remove a language pack

  • Use Control Panel to remove the language pack.

Registering the Speech Language Packs

The RGSLang.exe utility is an Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Resource Kit tool that is used register language packs. The tool compares the registry settings with the language or languages that are configured in Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI). If there are differences, the tool updates WMI to match the registry settings.

Note

Because WMI properties are set at the pool level, you do not need to register the language pack on each Front End Server in an Enterprise pool.
You are not required to register the Response Group Service Language Pack.

To install the Resource Kit Tools

  1. Download the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Resource Kit Tools from the Microsoft Download Center at https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=132508.

  2. Install the Resource Kit Tools on a server where the Response Group Service is installed.

To register a language pack

  1. Log on as a member of the RTCUniversalServerAdmins group to a computer where the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Resource Kit Tools have been installed.

  2. Click Start, click Run, type cmd in the Open box, and then click OK.

  3. At the command prompt, go to the directory that contains the RGSLang.exe utility (the default location is %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2\ResKit\RGS).

  4. Type RGSLang sync, and then press RETURN.

Restarting the Response Group Service Application

The Response Group Service must be restarted for the language change to be recognized.

To restart the Response Group Service

  1. Log on to the Enterprise Edition server or Standard Edition server as a member of the RTCUniversalServerAdmins group.

  2. Click Start, and then click Run.

  3. Type services.msc, and then click OK to open the Services snap-in.

  4. Select Office Communications Server Response Group, and then click Restart.
