Scenario 2 – DCS Services and Databases Installed on Different Systems

In this scenario, you install and configure all of the DCS services on one server computer and all of the corresponding databases on another server computer. You then install the client application on a separate computer.

Scenario 2 deployment topology

To install and configure DCS SP1 in a scenario 2 configuration

  1. Follow the installation instructions described in Chapter 3, Performing a Clean DCS SP1 Installation, but when you select the database location for each service, select the dedicated database computer as explained in the next steps.

  2. On the Discovery Database page, specify the database server (running SQL Server 2005 or 2008) and database name for the Discovery Service database. In deployment scenario 2, this server will host all of the DCS databases. To select the server from a list, click Browse, select the server, and then click OK to return to the Discovery Database page. Click Next.

  7. On the Policy Database page, specify the database server for the Policy database. In deployment scenario 2, this server will host all of the DCS databases. To select the server from a list, click Browse, select the server, and then click OK to return to the Policy Database page. Click Next.

  10. On the Business Log Database page, specify the database server for the BusinessLog database. In deployment scenario 2, this server will host all of the DCS databases. To select the server from a list, click Browse, select the server, and then click OK to return to the Business Log Database page. Click Next.

  18. On the Application Management Database page, specify the database server for the Application Management database. In deployment scenario 2, this server will host all of the DCS databases.
