Selecting which mailboxes to scan on-demand

Applies to: Forefront Protection for Exchange

After configuring the on-demand scan (see Configuring the on-demand scan), you can select which mailboxes to scan on-demand.

Important

Scans targeting large mailbox stores may run for a long time. Running such scans using the on-demand scan is not recommended. Use the scheduled scan instead; for more information about using the scheduled scan, see Scheduling malware scanning of mailboxes and public folders.

To select which mailboxes to scan on-demand

  1. In the Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange Server Administrator Console's Tasks view, in the tree, expand Task Library, and then click Mailbox On-Demand.

  2. In the Task Library - Mailbox On-Demand pane, in the Scan Targets section, you can select one of the following options:

    • None—Does not scan any mailboxes. This is the default.

    • Selected—Scans specific mailboxes. When you choose Selected, the Select Mailboxes button becomes active.

      Note

Mailboxes with names that are made up entirely of backslashes () are not scanned.

If you click the Select Mailboxes button, the Select Mailboxes dialog box opens, enabling you to enter part of a user name or alias. Clicking the search icon (represented by a magnifying glass) opens another dialog box in which you can select all or some of the mailboxes that met your search criteria. Click OK to return to the Select Mailboxes dialog box, where your selections are now listed. To remove a selection, click Remove. To return to the Task Library - Mailbox On-Demand pane, click Apply and Close.
