Skipping file filtering within compressed files

Applies to: Forefront Protection 2010 for SharePoint

You can configure Microsoft Forefront Protection 2010 for SharePoint (FPSP) to globally skip file filtering within all compressed files. This functionality can be configured individually for each scan job type.

By default, skipping file filtering within compressed files is disabled for all types of scan jobs, meaning that the standard functionality of FPSP is to scan the content of compressed files, applying file filters. If you do not want to apply file filter lists to the content of compressed files, you can create a file filter list and set the action to "Skip detect". However, this only works, by default, for .zip, JAR, and OPENXML files.

To skip file filtering within self-extracting executables, IMCMIME files, .gzip archive files, .rar archive files, TAR archive files, and MACBIN binary files if the container matches a file filter list whose action was set to "Skip detect", select the appropriate scan job by using the following procedure.

To skip file filtering within compressed files

  1. In the Forefront Protection 2010 for SharePoint Administrator Console, click Policy Management, and then under the Filters section, click Filter Options.

  2. In the Filters - Filter Options pane, you can select the Skip file filtering within compressed files check box for each scan job type (realtime, scheduled, and on-demand).

By default, these options are disabled, meaning that the standard functionality of FPSP is to scan the content of compressed files, applying file filters.

  3. Click Save.

  4. Create a file filter list for the compressed file types you want to skip file filtering within, and set the Action for this filter list to Skip detect for the relevant scan job types. For more information about creating a file filter list, see Creating a file filter list.
