FTP Configuration Store

Updated: October 5, 2009

Applies To: Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Vista

FTP 7.5 uses IIS 7's new XML-based configuration store that is modeled after the ASP.NET configuration. This new model combines configuration settings across the Web platform. FTP 7.5 configuration is stored in the ApplicationHost.config file. By default, the server administrator is the only user who has permission to view and modify the ApplicationHost.config file.

Configuration settings for FTP sites can only be stored in the ApplicationHost.config file and cannot be delegated. This behavior differs from Web application settings that can be delegated and distributed through Web.config files. FTP settings cannot be delegated to Web.config files in order to prevent accidental changes to Web.config files that would affect Web publishing and that might prevent users from being able to access their Web content.
