Learn more about user account properties
You can configure settings for the following user account properties.
General Tab
First Name
First name is required, and it can be up to 31 characters long.
Last Name
Last name is optional, and it can be up to 31 characters long.
Logon Name
This is the name a person uses to access resources on the home server. The logon name can contain letters and numbers only, and it should match the name that a person uses to log on to a home computer.
Remote Access
Select Enable remote access if you want to allow this person to connect to your server through the Internet. When you enable Remote Access, you can choose to allow access to both shared folders and home computers, or only shared folders, or only home computers.
Note
User accounts with Remote Access enabled must have a strong password. For more information, see Learn more about password requirements [User Management].
Change Password
Click Change Password if you want to change this person’s user account password. You need to do this when people forget their passwords.
Enable/Disable Account
Click Disable Account if you want to temporarily disable this person’s user account. All of the person's files and folders remain on your home server, but the person cannot access them.
You may want to disable a person’s user account if that person temporarily does not need to access your home network. When you want to provide access again, you can quickly do this by clicking Enable Account.
Shared Folder Access Tab
- You can set the type of access that this user account has to shared folders: Full, Read, None. For more information, see Which access settings should I choose? [User Management].
