How will the environment change when Exchange Server is removed?

When you integrate Windows SBS 2008 with Exchange Online, you remove Exchange Server from your server. This requires changes to your server that affect how you work with e-mail.

When you remove Exchange Server from Windows SBS 2008, the following changes are made to the server:

  • You cannot run the POP3 Connector for Windows SBS 2008.

  • If your faxes are sent to a mailbox, you must change a setting to send them to a folder or printer. For more information about how to manage faxes, see “Managing Faxes in Windows Small Business Server 2008” (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=142905).

  • You do not receive e-mail when events occur on your internal Web site (https://companyweb).

  • You do not receive e-mail from the File Server Resource Manager unless you change a setting to send the e-mail to an account on Microsoft Online Services.   • You cannot run the Move Exchange Data Wizard.

  • You cannot use the Configure Internet Mail Wizard to connect Windows SBS 2008 to Exchange Online.

  • You cannot use Office Outlook Web Access on Windows SBS 2008 to access e-mail. You should remove access to the Office Outlook Web Access Web site.   • You can continue to use reports that are created by Windows SBS 2008, but the E-mail Usage section does not contain information. You can remove this section from the report.   • After you integrate Windows SBS 2008 with Exchange Online, you can continue to create security distribution groups, but they cannot be associated to e-mail. You cannot create local distribution groups, but you can configure how e-mail is distributed on Exchange Online.
