User Experience during Phase 7 of Migration

Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 and Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 will reach end of support on January 9, 2018. To stay supported, you will need to upgrade. For more information, see Resources to help you upgrade your Office 2007 servers and clients.

Users experience downtime while their accounts are being moved. Because the new features that are provided by Office Communications Server 2007 R2 are not available to users of Live Communications Server 2005, the user experience otherwise remains unchanged until you have deployed upgraded clients to the users that you have moved.

Users exist in one of two states: homed on a Live Communications Server pool or homed on an Office Communications Server 2007 R2 pool. Because the feature set of the 2005 release of Office Communicator client is fully supported by both pool versions, the user does not know the difference. Communicator Web Access users are not redirected to the legacy Communicator Web Access server after the user is moved to the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 pool.
