Installing endpoint components using the Client Components Installer

Updated: February 1, 2011

Applies To: Unified Access Gateway

This topic describes how to install the Forefront Unified Access Gateway (UAG) endpoint components by using the Forefront UAG Endpoint Components Installer.

End users who do not have ActiveX download rights on Windows Internet Explorer, and are logged in with Power User or Administrator privileges, can use the Forefront UAG Endpoint Components Installer to install the endpoint components. End users who are logged in with Administrator privileges, can also use this method on browsers other than Internet Explorer to install the SSL Network Tunneling (Network Connector) component.

In this mode, users can download an auto-install file onto their computer by using either an “installer” toolbar button or a link on the portal home page. They can then log out of the site and use this file to install the components in offline mode.

The following steps are required to install endpoint components in offline mode:

  • Configuring the Forefront UAG Endpoint Components Installer

  • Installing the client components using the Installer

Configuring the Forefront UAG Endpoint Components Installer

To allow client endpoints to use the Forefront UAG Client Components installer, you must add a link to the auto-install file on the portal home page, as described in Enabling the offline client components installer.

The following table lists the component groups that you can install using the Forefront UAG Client Components Installer.

Forefront UAG Endpoint Components Installer installation options

Installation group Installs the following components:

Basic

Basic components: Endpoint Session Cleanup, Client Trace Utility, Endpoint Detection, SSL Application Tunneling ActiveX component.

NetworkConnector

Basic components and the SSL Network Tunneling (Network Connector) component.

SocketForwarder

Basic components and the Socket Forwarding component.

All

Basic components, SSL Network Tunneling (Network Connector) component, and the Socket Forwarding component.

NetworkConnectorOnly

Note

If the installation detects that client components are already installed on the computer, it upgrades any of the components from previous versions, even if their installation is not enabled in the current installation configuration.

When using the toolbar, the “SSL Network Tunneling (Network Connector) component only” installer is always downloaded on browsers other than Internet Explorer, such as Mozilla Firefox, to enable the SSL Network Tunneling (Network Connector) client to run via the SSL Application Tunneling Java applet.
