WSUS 3.0 SP2 and the Catalog Site

Applies To: Windows Server 2003 with SP2, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008 R2 with SP1, Windows Server Update Services, Windows Small Business Server 2011 Standard

The Microsoft Update Catalog is the Microsoft location where you can import hotfixes and hardware drivers. You can access the Microsoft Update catalog site from any computer on which the WSUS administrative console is installed. You must be logged on to the computer as an administrator to import the hotfixes.

To download updates from the Microsoft Update Catalog

  1. Open the WSUS Administration Console by following the instructions in Open the WSUS Administration Console.

  2. Select the server name or the Updates node.

  3. In the Actions pane, click Import Updates.

  4. At the Microsoft Update Catalog website, type the name of the product or issue into the Search text box and click Search.

  5. From the list of retrieved items, click Add for each item that you want to import or download. When you are finished, click View basket.

  6. Click Import. WSUS lets you download a single copy of updates and cache them on local servers. Client computers can then be configured to receive updates directly from one or more WSUS servers rather than through Windows Update. To download the updates without importing them, clear the Import directly into Windows Server Update Services check box.

Note

To access the updates at this site, you must install the Microsoft Update Catalog ActiveX® control.
