How To: Reinstall Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gateway, Medium Business Edition on Windows Essential Business Server Security Server

This article describes how to uninstall and reinstall Microsoft® Forefront™ Threat Management Gateway, Medium Business Edition (TMG MBE) on Windows® Essential Business Server (Windows EBS) Security Server.

Warning

Before starting this process, it is recommended that you completely back up Security Server.

This process requires the following steps:

  • Step 1: Back up the existing firewall settings

  • Step 2: Uninstall Forefront TMG MBE from Security Server

  • Step 3: Reinstall Forefront TMG MBE on Security Server

  • Step 4: Restore the firewall settings

Step 1: Back up the existing firewall settings

This procedure describes how to back up the firewall settings on Windows EBS Security Server.

To save network firewall settings to an XML file

  1. On the Windows EBS Management Server, start the Windows Essential Business Server Administration Console. (Click Start, click All Programs, click Windows Essential Business Server, and then click Windows Essential Business Server Administration Console).

  2. On the Security tab, click Network firewall.

  3. In the tasks pane, under Network firewall Tasks, click Save network firewall settings.

  4. In the Save as dialog box, choose a name and a location for the XML file that will contain the current configuration settings for the network firewall, and then click Save.

    Note

    You will need this information when you restore the firewall configuration.

  5. In the settings were successfully saved dialog box, click Close.

Step 2: Uninstall Forefront TMG MBE from Security Server

This procedure describes how to uninstall Forefront TMG MBE by using Programs and Features.

Note

Uninstalling Forefront TMG MBE by using Programs and Features also removes its Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services (AD LDS) instance, ISASTGCTRL.

To uninstall Forefront TMG MBE

  1. On the Security Server, click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Programs and Features.

  2. Select Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gateway, and then click Uninstall/Change.

  3. On the Program Maintenance page, select Remove, and then click Next.

  4. Select or ignore the options to retain the existing log files and cache files on the server, and then click Next.

  5. Restart the server when you are prompted to do so.

Step 3: Reinstall Forefront TMG MBE on Security Server

This procedure describes how to install Forefront TMG MBE on Security Server.

To install Forefront TMG MBE

  1. On the Security Server, open the following folder in Windows Explorer.

    %ProgramFiles%\Windows Essential Business Server\Bin\ISA

  2. Double-click ISAAutorun.exe to start Microsoft Forefront TMG setup.

  3. On the Microsoft Forefront TMG Setup page, click Install Forefront TMG.

  4. Select Install Forefront Threat Management Gateway, and then click Next.

  5. On the Component Selection page, click Next.

  6. On the Internal Network page, follow these steps to configure your network settings:

    1. Click Add.

    2. On the Addresses dialog box, click Add Adapter.

    3. Select the network adapter for your internal network, and then click OK.

    4. Click OK to return to the Internal Network page, and then click Next.

  7. Click Next to confirm the message, “Setup will restart these services on the server: SNMP Service, IIS Admin Service, World Wide Web Publishing Service and Microsoft Operations Manager Service.”

  8. Click Install.

Note

When you open the Forefront TMG console for the first time after it is reinstalled, the Getting Started Wizard starts. Click Close and then, on the confirmation dialog box, clear the Automatically launch the wizard the next time the Forefront TMG Management console is launched check box and click Yes.

Step 4: Restore the firewall settings

Follow the procedure below that applies to your situation:

  • To restore the settings that you backed up before you uninstalled Forefront TMG. Follow this procedure if you successfully backed up the firewall settings before uninstalling Forefront TMG MBE. This procedure restores the backed up firewall settings.

  • To restore the settings that you configured during the Windows EBS installation. Follow this procedure if you were unable to back up your most recent firewall settings before uninstalling Forefront TMG MBE. This procedure restores Forefront TMG MBE to the firewall settings that you configured during the Windows EBS installation.

To restore the settings that you backed up before you uninstalled Forefront TMG

  1. On the Windows EBS Management Server, start the Windows Essential Business Server Administration Console. (Click Start, click All Programs, click Windows Essential Business Server, and then click Windows Essential Business Server Administration Console).

  2. On the Security tab, click Network firewall.

  3. In the tasks pane, under Network firewall Tasks, click Apply saved settings.

  4. In the Open dialog box, locate the XML file that you saved in Step 1: Back up the existing firewall settings, and then click Open.

  5. When the settings are applied, a dialog box displays the message, “The network firewall settings were applied successfully.” Click Close to close the dialog box.

To restore the settings that you configured during the Windows EBS installation

  1. On the Windows EBS Management Server, start the Windows Essential Business Server Administration Console. (Click Start, click All Programs, click Windows Essential Business Server, and then click Windows Essential Business Server Administration Console).

  2. On the Security tab, click Network firewall.

  3. In the tasks pane, under Network firewall Tasks, click Restore default network firewall settings.

  4. On the confirmation dialog box, click Yes to restore the default settings.

  5. When the settings are applied, a dialog box displays the message, “Default network firewall settings were successfully restored.” Click Close to close the dialog box.
