Changes from Duet Enterprise 1.0 to Duet Enterprise 2.0

SharePoint 2013

Applies to: Duet Enterprise 2.0

Topic Last Modified: 2013-12-18

Summary: Learn about the features and functionality in Duet Enterprise 1.0 that have been deprecated or removed from Duet Enterprise 2.0.

This article describes the features and functionality in Duet Enterprise 1.0 that have been deprecated or removed from Duet Enterprise 2.0. Deprecated features are included for compatibility with the previous product version. These features will be removed in the next major release of Duet Enterprise.

The following features and functionality have been deprecated or removed in Duet Enterprise 2.0.

Feature Comments Status

Starter Services

Description: The site collection templates and solutions that enable Duet Enterprise users to quickly start working with the product. Starter Services included three site collection templates — Duet Enterprise Customers, Duet Enterprise Products, and Duet Enterprise Sites — together with a set of solutions. The solutions primarily provide the external content types and Web Parts for interacting with the SAP system by using the sites created from the templates.

The site collection templates were removed from Duet Enterprise 2.0, but the external content types and Web Parts are included but deprecated in Duet Enterprise 2.0.

Reason for change: Deprecated in favor of Visual Studio integration that developers can use to create BDC models and external content types for use with Duet Enterprise.

Collaborate On

Description: Collaborate On is a framework that enables end users to create sites, collaborate, and share documents with other users for each external data record based on a site template defined by a developer of the external content type.

Reason for change: A developer can easily build this functionality by using the new SharePoint 2013 app model without having to create multiple sites (one for each external content type item), which causes manageability issues. This feature is deprecated in favor of the more scalable app model.

App Tooling and Packaging Service

Description: App tooling and packaging are a set of tools included with Duet Enterprise to enable easy creation of Outlook add-ins (VSTO packages).

Reason for change: Removed in favor of the newer Office 2013 app model.
