Updated: January 15, 2013

Applies To: System Center Data Protection Manager 2010

Use the System Center 2012 – Data Protection Manager (DPM) planning topics to prepare your environment for DPM deployment.

  • Plan for DPM server deployment—Figure out the number of DPM servers you’ll need and where to put them. Plan how you’ll deploy the SQL Server instance used for the DPM database.

  • Plan for data storage—Determine how much storage you’ll need to store replicas and recovery points for protected data.

  • Plan for data backup and protection—Decide what workloads and applications you want to protect, plan for protection groups and how you’ll backup and recover data.

  • Plan for DPM security—Understand DPM security considerations, including antivirus and firewall requirements, and the permissions model.
