Tired of digging through your wallet or purse for that pesky library card? Windows Embedded 8.1 Handheld is here to help. A lot of the things you'd normally keep in your pocket can now be stored digitally in your Wallet on your device, such as credit or debit cards, loyalty cards, membership cards, and coupons. You can keep track of your card balances and transactions, set up payment cards for purchasing apps and games, browse for local deals, and more.

Important

Before you can use Wallet to buy apps, games, music, and videos in the Windows Store, you'll need to sign in on your device with a Microsoft account. To learn more, see Microsoft account.

To add a credit or debit card for Windows Store purchases

  1. In the App list, tap Wallet.
  2. If this is the first time you have used Wallet, tap Get started.
  3. On the All pane, tap Add , and then tap Credit or debit.
  4. Select the Set up card for app and music purchases check box and tap Next.
  5. Enter your card info and tap Next. Your card will be added to your Microsoft account to buy apps, games, music, and more in the Windows Store.
  6. Your device will search for an app from your card issuer that's compatible with Wallet. If it finds one, tap it to install the app and link it to your card. The app will regularly update your Wallet with account info such as account balance, transaction history, and more.

Note

  • If your device can't find a matching app, that's okay—your card has already been saved to your Wallet and can be used for app and music purchases. You can check for available apps later by opening the card in your Wallet and tapping Search for app.
  • If you choose not to set up your card for app and music purchases during setup, you can still add your card to your Wallet. However, if your device can't find a matching app, you'll need to add your card info manually.

To redeem a gift card

  1. In the App list, tap Wallet.
  2. If this is the first time you have used Wallet, tap Get started.
  3. On the All pane, tap Add , and then tap Microsoft gift card.
  4. Enter the 25-character code. (On physical gift cards, scratch off the label on the back of the card to find the code.) If you haven't entered it before, enter the billing info requested for your Microsoft account and tap Next.
  5. Select the Set up card for app and music purchases check box and tap Next.
  6. In the App list, tap Store to start shopping in the Windows Store.
The gift card amount is added to your Microsoft account, so you can also use it later at the Windows Phone Store, Windows Store, and select Xbox stores.

To add a coupon

  1. In the App list, tap Wallet.
  2. If this is the first time you have used Wallet, tap Get started.
  3. On the Deals pane, tap Add, and then do one of the following:
    • To search for coupons near you, tap Find deals. If you find a coupon you'd like to add to your Wallet, tap it, and then tap Save for later.
    • To add a coupon manually, tap Add deal info. From here, you can add info about your coupon (such as the coupon code and expiration date) and save it to your Wallet for later.

To delete a card or coupon

  1. In the App list, tap Wallet.
  2. Find the item you'd like to delete, and tap and hold it.
In the context menu, tap Delete. When your device prompts to confirm, tap Yes.

Note

If you see a message saying "Additional action required" when you try to delete a card, it means you need to go online first and delete the card from your Microsoft account before it can be deleted from your Wallet.
