Set up buttons (Retail essentials)

This topic explains how to set up buttons that are included in grids on the point-of-sale (POS) screen. You can customize various properties of individual buttons, such as the text, color, and operation. You can also add images to buttons. For information about how to customize groups of buttons in Retail essentials, see Set up a button grid (Retail essentials).
Prerequisite
To use the Designer for button grids, you must have the appropriate permissions to access the database. For more information, see this TechNet article.
Create a button or modify an existing button
Use this procedure to add or update a button in a button grid.
Click Retail essentials > Channels > Setup > POS > Button grids.
In the Button grids form, click Designer.
Select a button or add a new one. To add a button, click New button.
Right-click the button, and then click Button properties.
In the Text on button field, type the text that you want to appear on the button.
In the Font size field, type the font size of the text, and then, in the Font style field, select the font style.
On the Action field, select an operation for the button. For more information about operations in Retail essentials, see Set up permission groups and operations (Retail essentials).
Click OK.
Create an image and assign it to a button
Use the following procedure to create an image that you can add to a button.
Click Retail essentials > Channels > Setup > POS > Images.
In the Images form, click Select image to open a browser window where you can search for and select an image.
When you select an image, the image is assigned a unique ID, and a preview of the image is displayed in the form.
To delete an image from the list, select the image ID, and then click Delete.
Use the following procedure to add an image to a button.
In the Button grids form, click Designer.
Right-click the button, and then click Button properties. Then, under Button preview, click Select image.
Select a picture in the list, and then click Select image.
Click OK, or click Clear image to remove the image from the button.
Change the size of a button
Use this procedure to change the size of a button.
- Right-click the button, and then click Button properties. Then, in the Size in columns and Size in rows fields, type the number of columns and rows that the button spans.
Delete a button
Use this procedure to delete a button.
- Right-click the button that you want to delete, and then click Delete button.
