How to Change the Default Timeout Period for Data Warehouse Transform Jobs

When you have a highly scaled IT infrastructure, then you cannot leave data warehouse jobs disabled for long. This is because the volume of data to be transformed will quickly gather and eventually exceed the amount that can be processed by the transform jobs within the timeout period. You’ll want to change the timeout period for the initial sync. And, you’ll need to change the timeout period if there is high volume of configuration items imported from Operations Manager or Forefront Identify Manager or from some other data source that causes the Transform.Common job to take longer than the default timeout period.

You can use the following procedure to change the default transform job timeout period, which happens every 3 hours by default. You’ll want to set the timeout period for longer than the default value.

To override the default timeout period

  1. Edit the registry on the data warehouse management server and ensure that the key name SqlCommandTimeout under SOFTWARE\Microsoft\System Center\2010\Common\DAL exists and is of type DWORD. If it does not exist create it.

  2. Edit the value, which is in seconds, with a positive value.

  3. Restart the Microsoft Monitoring Agent service.

  4. You can resume the Transform.common job to see the change.
