How to Use Remote Web Workplace

Remote Web Workplace is the secure Web site entrance for local and remote access to the resources that are stored on the Windows EBS network. You can access Remote Web Workplace from within the office and from any remote location with an Internet-enabled computer.
After logging on to Remote Web Workplace with your user name and password, you can access resources on the Windows EBS network, such as your e-mail, applications, and files. In most cases, you do not need to log on separately to access these resources.
Note
Remote Web Workplace automatically logs off after 30 minutes of inactivity.
Requirements for using Remote Web Workplace
The following are requirements for using Remote Web Workplace:
Browser Security Your browser must make a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) connection to Remote Web Workplace. Before you type your user name and password to log on to Remote Web Workplace, make sure that your browser is connecting to a URL that begins with https (for example, https://remote.adventure-works.com).
Certificate You must have a trusted certificate installed on the computer that you use to access Remote Web Workplace. If you do not, you may receive an error message that says "Certificate Invalid." To resolve this error, contact your network administrator to obtain a self-issued certificate installation package. Copy the installation package to a removable storage device (such as a USB flash drive), run this application on the remote computer, and install the self-signed certificate on it.
Remote Desktop Connection and ActiveX Control To connect to a remote computer in Remote Web Workplace, the Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) client software must be installed on your computer. RDC client version 6.0 (or a later version) is required. A compatible version of the RDC client software is installed by default in some Windows operating systems. To download the RDC client software for Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2), see the Microsoft Web site (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=137004).
The Microsoft Terminal Services Client Control (an ActiveX® control that is included in RDC client software) must also be enabled in your Web browser. If the control is disabled, you must enable it to access a remote computer in Remote Web Workplace. To enable the control in the Microsoft Internet Explorer® browser, use the Manage Add-ons dialog box. Tasks in Remote Web Workplace
The table below lists the tasks that are available to you after you log on to Remote Web Workplace with your network user name and password.

Connect to a Computer |
Connect to any computer on the network (for which you have permissions) and access the desktop, applications, files, and other resources as if you were at that computer in the office. This starts a Remote Desktop Connection session. Click Show list to see the list of computers that you can connect to. Note You must type the credentials for an account that has permissions to use the computer. Your Remote Desktop Connection session does not end automatically when you log off Remote Web Workplace. |
