Why use Windows Home Server?

The Windows® Home Server server software can automatically back up as many as 10 client computers on a Windows Small Business Server 2008 (Windows SBS 2008) network, so that you can easily restore entire computers or selected files or folders.

This has the following benefits:

  • Windows Home Server automatically backs up client computers every day.

  • You can restore the entire client computer hard drive by using the Windows Home Server Restore CD. The Restore CD provides a wizard that helps you retrieve the backup from Windows Home Server.

  • You can restore selected files or folders from any of the stored backups by using the Windows Home Server console.

  • Windows Home Server needs less disk space and less time to back up than other backup technologies. It uses a single instance backup strategy, which means that identical data from different client computers are sent to Windows Home Server once and are stored there once. The same data is not backed up multiple times from multiple client computers.

Note

Windows Home Server does not back up the server that is running Windows SBS 2008. To back up the server, use Windows SBS 2008 Backup.
