Exchange 2007 is not supported on Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2

[This topic is intended to address a specific issue called out by the Exchange Server Analyzer Tool. You should apply it only to systems that have had the Exchange Server Analyzer Tool run against them and are experiencing that specific issue. The Exchange Server Analyzer Tool, available as a free download, remotely collects configuration data from each server in the topology and automatically analyzes the data. The resulting report details important configuration issues, potential problems, and nondefault product settings. By following these recommendations, you can achieve better performance, scalability, reliability, and uptime. For more information about the tool or to download the latest versions, see "Microsoft Exchange Analyzers" at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=34707.]

The Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 2 (SP2) Setup program runs the Exchange Server Best Practices Analyzer Tool to perform a series of prerequisite checks prior to the installation of any Exchange 2007 components. As part of these prerequisite checks, the Best Practices Analyzer examines the computer to determine which operating system it is running. If the tool detects that the computer is running one of the following operating systems, the tool generates an error message:

  • Windows Server 2008 R2

  • Windows 7

Exchange 2007 is not supported on these versions of Windows. This includes the Exchange 2007 Management Tools. If the computer is running one of these versions of Windows, Setup cannot continue the installation of Exchange 2007.

To address this issue, install the Exchange 2007 components on a computer that is running a version of Windows that is supported for use with Exchange 2007.

For more information about the versions of Windows that support Exchange 2007, see "Exchange 2007 System Requirements" (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=67600).
