Submitting a Job with Node Preparation and Node Release Tasks in Windows HPC Server 2008 R2 Step-by-Step Guide

Updated: July 23, 2010

Applies To: Windows HPC Server 2008 R2

In Windows® HPC Server 2008 R2, you can specify commands or scripts to run on nodes as they are allocated to or released from your job by adding Node Preparation and Node Release tasks. Node Preparation and Node Release tasks run once on each node that is allocated to the job. They can be used to provision the nodes and to collect data from the nodes when the job is done.

This guide provides information about how Node Preparation and Node Release tasks work, and includes example procedures that describe how to submit a job with a Node Preparation and a Node Release task.

The following list describes the requirements for completing the steps in this guide:

  • You must be added as a user on a Windows HPC Server 2008 R2 cluster that has at least one compute node.

  • To submit jobs to a cluster, you must have the HPC Pack 2008 R2 client utilities installed on your computer. To connect to a cluster, your computer must be joined to the same domain or to a domain that has a trust relationship with the cluster domain.
