Before You Analyze Commerce Server Data

You use Business Desk Analysis to run reports, to view Segment models, and to analyze user activity on your Web site. There are several tasks that must be performed to make user activity data available for analysis. The following figure shows the steps required to make data available to the Commerce Server 2002 analytical processes.

Before You Analyze Commerce Server Data

  4. Your system administrator can also assign specific SQL Server database roles to users, allowing some users to read and save reports while others can only read reports. For more information about creating these roles, see Scripts for Securing Databases Accessed by Reports.Your system administrator imports user activity data into the Data Warehouse. For information about importing data into the Data Warehouse, see Importing Data into the Data Warehouse in Commerce Server 2002 Help.

Your system administrator builds segment models and prediction models with the data in the Data Warehouse. For information about building analysis models, see Building a New Analysis Model in Commerce Server 2002 Help.

  6. Your system administrator runs the Report Preparation DTS task to load the OLAP cubes with the data in the Data Warehouse. The OLAP cubes are installed when a site is unpacked. The OLAP cubes organize and store the data for improved retrieval by the analysis processes. For information about running the Report Preparation process, see Running the Report Preparation DTS Task in Commerce Server 2002 Help.

  7. You analyze user activity on your Web site by running analysis reports and viewing Segment models. For information about running reports, see Running Reports. For information about viewing Segment models, see Viewing a Segment Model.

  8. You export affinity lists to create a direct mail list, which targets a group of users who are likely to buy a specific product. For more information about creating affinity lists, see Creating Affinity Lists.
